Disabling Cmd+Arrows in Firefox on a Mac
Since I started using Tumblr’s TinyMCE editor, I had become quite frustrated with my Cmd+Left shortcut causing a browser “back” action instead of going to the beginning of the line.
Cmd+Left goes to the beginning of the line in almost every Mac text editor as well as in Firefox text inputs or textareas. In TinyMCE with Firefox, however, it will go back a page in your browser. This is incredibly frustrating.
Solution? Disable the shortcut using keyconfig and get used to using Cmd+[ to go back instead. Here’s how to do it.
Install the keyconfig Firefox add-on.
Go to Tools > Keyconfig:

Find goBackKb and goForwardKb and disable them.

That’s it! Now you just need to get used to using Cmd+[ and Cmd+] to go back and forward in Firefox and you’ll be set.
Bonus: Cmd+[ and Cmd+] both work when your cursor is in a text input or textarea. None of that annoying click in an empty area and then Cmd+Left to go back. Or am I the only one that did that?
Double Bonus: I remapped the thumb buttons on my Logitech MX 510 mouse to also use Cmd+[ and Cmd+], so I can now use them to go back and forward even when my cursor is in a text input!
